Writers, please lend your thoughts...?

I%26#039;m working on a novel for young adults, and I want to see what other writers think of some of my character names. Naming my characters has always been hard for me...I want the names to be accesible but not too %26quot;mainstream%26quot; and to fit the character%26#039;s personality.

For my two protagonists, a boy and girl, I have Holly Lakefield and Adam Faylson.

Holly is a teenage girl (14-15) who is very sarcastic and witty, sort of a %26quot;smart a@#%26quot; kind of person, but also very afraid of showing her softer side, I guess you%26#039;d say.

Adam is your classic %26quot;mystery man%26quot; with a twist. He is quiet, very intuitive, sensitive. He is quite literally Holly%26#039;s opposite. (But they say opposites attract, hint hint).

What does everyone think of these names? If the feedback is helpful I might add some more, but these are my story%26#039;s two main character, though it is told mainly from Holly%26#039;s viewpoint, in 3rd person.

Usually, as in my situation, the first name that comes to mind while creating the character sticks. Sometimes, however, I%26#039;d change the name of a character if the name and the personality matches someone I know.

I had written a novelette for children about an irascible snake called %26quot;Mean Ralph.%26quot; Ralph%26#039;s soon-to-be girlfriend was named Rhonda at first, but because she came from south of the Rio Grande, I changed her name to Rosa--a more fitting Mexican name.

Coffeekitten,

Thank you for selecting my reply and giving it a four-star rating. I wish you success in your novel. Remember, cut and trim. Then edit some more. Report It

|||I sometimes labor with this as well. I think the names sound great. Not too trendy, but not old-fashioned either. I have teenagers at home. I could picture them bringing home friends with these names.

Good luck!|||I like them...|||I like the names... I don%26#039;t like Adam%26#039;s last name though...

I keep thinking... %26#039;false%26#039; but... maybe it%26#039;s just because I%26#039;m messed up there in my head...|||I find the name Holly fitting to that description, how ever, Adam seems to be more of a Bold and Adventure type of name.

I suggest maybe going with a less prominent name, maybe Max, or Ben, something that is one syllable.

Hope that helps.
